Checking In: Hello from Vermont!

To say that it has been difficult to write over the last week would be a colossal understatement. I completely underestimated how long it would take us each day to do 6 hours of driving. Plus loading and unloading always took forever.

Meanwhile, we got confirmation that my dad has Stage 4 brain cancer. His surgeon removed as much as possible, but not all, due to the way it was entwined with blood vessels. He seems to be doing well since the surgery, though he is struggling to speak. Prayers are appreciated, for both him and my mom.

While on the road, we also discovered that we would NOT be able to rent our future house before closing, so that sent us on a chase of somewhere to stay for 7 people and 3 pets. Thankfully, we found a lovely little AirBnB about 15 minutes north of town. It has room for all of us to sleep in beds and a full kitchen. But it was money we hadn’t planned to spend and that stings. Still, this time away gives us a chance to unwind and calm down after the trek across the country. It is truly a beautiful little place to stay.

Also, at one of the hotels along the way, we forgot the bag with all my art supplies. So I am missing being able to unwind with creativity.

Overall, I guess I am just down today. We arrived here 2 days ago and I think that as the adrenaline of travel wears off, the real feelings will come flooding in.

We were able to see the inside of the house this morning. The pictures were very well done so I wasn’t really surprised at anything. Nothing in the house was surprising, that is. We had to park a few blocks away and walk to the house because our street was blocked off for the town’s annual Pet Parade, which was adorable.

Miraculously, the kids all chose their rooms, and there were no disputes. They each wanted a different room!

I’ve been taking notes along the trip and have so many great stories to share, but today, I’m just tired and I figure that is part of the journey too.
