Boy, to we have a lot to get caught up with!
The morning of the 20th, we viewed the other house on FaceTime with our realtor. We loved it right away. The reason we hadn’t looked at it before was because it didn’t have a garage. It turns out that won’t be an issue. More on that in another post. The house is beautiful and, though we are still looking at a paint job and new roof, the conditions are not as dire as the first house.
The best part? This house is EXACTLY where I wanted to be. I had a couple of blocks down this particular street where I wanted to live, and this house is right there. Thisclose to the kids’ high school.
But, since we were still under contract for the other house, we waited through the day and chewed our nails about how our next steps would unfold. We had our offer prepped and ready to go, but waited for the go ahead from our lawyer.
The green light came on Saturday morning. Our realtor submitted our offer, and they countered almost immediately.
We accepted their counter and the whole thing was done before 8 a.m. here in Phoenix.
I can’t even tell you the relief we felt. After days of constant tension, we finally took a breath.
And this house! You guys! It’s amazing. I can’t wait to show you! We have an inspection on Wednesday and after we have more details, then I’ll fill you in.
With the house stuff taken care of, we spent a bittersweet morning with my parents. They gave us some furniture, including a couple of fluffy red couches, a china cabinet, and a beautiful little end table my great grandfather found on the side of the road. My mom gave me her silver service and her collection of teacups and saucers, and told me the stories of how she acquired each one and the people in her life.
Then we returned home and unloaded all of that, and spent the evening with some of Jay’s brothers and their wives and kids.
Just to type those things out here does no justice to the emotional connections, memories shared, and the laughing and crying we all did. But I’m not ready to put those into written words. I have to process and cherish them a little on my own, first. And this catches you up to where we are today –
Which is Sunday. After an early Mass, we spent the day frantically packing as much as we could. Tessa and her boyfriend are staying with us to help and she has cared for me as much as the kids, even making me a smoothie when my energy flagged.
From this moment, we have 36 hours before the movers come to load the truck. There is so much left to do. I’ll check in tomorrow if I can.
I know well the emotions you are going through, having left all my family behind to move to Arizona. Such a jumble of feelings, added to the last minute packing and preparing! I’m praying for you as I think of you in these next days, that God will carry you through all the surprises and that the wonderful brand new memories will begin right away. Love you all!
Jenni, I discovered your writing tonight while waiting up for Phil. I am so excited you are posting again! Thank you for sharing your adventurous journey! Peace and safety.
